Tshego (26) was recently crowned the “MTV Base VJ Search Winner” and now joins the elite club of past winners, which includes Sizwe Dhlomo, Fikile “Fix” Moeti, Nomuzi Mabena and Sandile Ntshingila.

The Pretoria born young star described the moment of being crowned as highly emotional.

“I cried man, even “le nou” I am getting a bit teary,” he shares with a giggle.

“I thought about my mom a lot because I understood what this could do for my family, people around me and myself. That feeling of knowing that I am going to be okay and knowing that it’s all via my dream was like bonus yadi bonus.”

Despite having finally hit the jackpot, Tshego is incredibly humble and has a beautiful way of making everyone feel comfortable.

During the shoot, he seems quite in his element and always strives for perfection in his delivery.

“I am very sensitive when it comes to what I do and every time I am made aware of a mistake that I make as a presenter,  I go home and work on it,” he explains.

“I want to be at my utmost best the whole time, I want to make sure “gore ke-ya” emplifier all the time. I have grown to understand subconsciously and consciously that I am attached to what I do. It’s not like I just won a competition, I am really serious about what I do.”

Even though he may be on a big stage, Tshego still seems to be quite the township boy. He explains that his win is not just about him but also about the kids in the township.

“Being a kid from Ga-Rankuwa, you don’t dream of such things,” he adds.

“I have always wanted to do this but it was just a dream.  Every time I go back home and the love that I receive is such a beautiful thing.

The reward for me is seeing that other people are starting to dream bigger too and obviously we have different paths but everyone needs a reminder that it is possible.”
