With the wide variety of haircuts that are now fashionable, going the short hair route has never been more popular. We turned to the founder of Legends barbershop, Sheldon Tatchell (28), to learn more about the haircut trend.
Blacklight: What do you think has made your barbershop one of the most popular brands in our local pop culture?
Sheldon Tatchell: Always reinventing ourselves and setting trends that make our haircuts always unique.
Blacklight: Do you have any looks that have become the staple of your barbershop?
Sheldon Tatchell: Our legendary fade is our staple haircut and the precise trim we do has become quite synonymous with our shop.
Blacklight: What’s the most popular haircut this season?
Sheldon Tatchell: Side fades with the twisted top is very popular this season. Kwesta, Nasty C, Masechaba Ndlovu and Luthando “Loot Love” Shosha are just some of the local stars rocking the hair style.
Blacklight: How does one maintain short hair in winter and what styles would you recommend?
Sheldon Tatchell: I would recommend a High top, Mohawk or the Mullet – which are the common haircut trends during winter.
For maintenance you must wash and style your hair at least once a week and visit your barber for a fresh cut/trim bi-weekly.
Blacklight: Many young corporates are opting to go for the short hair route. What must they keep in mind in terms of styling?
Sheldon Tatchell: We advise corporates to keep their haircuts “clean” and professional at all times to represent their occupation.
Blacklight: What do you usually advise someone who wants to get their hair cut for the first time? Sheldon Tatchell: We advise our customers to do research on the type of hairstyle that will suit their facial frame, alternatively, our barbers are trained to give advice and recommend a style best suited for the customer.
Blacklight: What are your three essential hair tips that can ensure one always looks polished on a daily basis?
Sheldon Tatchell: Make sure that you Wash your hair regularly.
For strength and shine, always wash your hair with cold water only.
Always nourish your hair correctly, using products best suited to the current condition of your hair.
